Getting Paid in Something Else
Your turtle earns ETH from every sale. In v2 its traits decide what that ETH can become.

Your traits already decided this
The gold on your turtle opens gold. The chip opens the chip maker. The city opens the index.
What you got at mint decides what you can be paid in, and traits never change. This was settled a year ago whether you knew it or not.
Most turtles unlocked something. Some unlocked several. A turtle that unlocked nothing earns ETH, which is what every turtle earns by default anyway.
How you choose
Point any slice of your fees at what your turtle unlocked. Split it across several. Or point none of it and keep the ETH.
The split has to add up to 100% or to nothing at all. Leaving it alone is the default and it costs you nothing.
Nothing is bought the moment you choose
Your choice takes effect from the next round. From then on, each round converts that share of the new fees your turtle earns into the stock.
It never touches what you already have. Everything earned before the choice stays exactly as it was.
What it costs
Buying costs gas, and that gas comes out of the amount being converted, never out of the rest of your balance.
It is capped at 1% of the slice being converted. It is a ceiling and not a charge, so the vault only ever takes what the transaction actually cost. If it cost less, you pay less.

The price is not ours to set. Conversions are priced from a time weighted average across a thirty minute window, read from the pool on chain. A thirty minute average is expensive to push around, which is the point: it means nobody can move the price for a moment to make your conversion worse.
Getting it back out
Your stock sits in the vault against your turtle, the same way your ETH does, and you withdraw it whenever you want.
Selling the turtle settles its stock to you first. The stock is yours, not the turtle's.
